If you don’t know CODES, you’d best read this post to get educated!  In short, think classy nu-disco vibes that isn’t afraid to thump the speakers.  Signed to Kill The Noise & DJ Craze’s SLOW ROAST RECORDS, he’s already responsible for some of the hottest tracks this year, just check this:

What You Gonna Do? by CODESHOUSE
Based out of NYC, CODES will be making his way to Edmonton for a party that only TOO LEGIT could deliver.  If you read my last post about TOO LEGIT and the kind of music we’re representing, you’ll understand why CODES will be our first show (with more on the way).  We’re all about creating that party atmosphere centered around the music, not the celebrity of a “top 10” DJ.  As DJs, we know our music and we’re out to invite the acts who make us get down to TOO LEGIT.

For more on CODES, check out his pages on Facebook and SoundCloud.  In the meantime, cop yourself a pair of tickets for the show at FOOSH or BLACKBYRD (both on Whyte Ave).  Only $7 because we’re not after your dollars, just your grooves!

P.S. Peep the minimix below to really get in the mood!

New Music Tuesday! EPs from Kill The Noise & Sound of Stereo

Today’s a very exciting day for me as two of my most anticipated EPs were finally released!  First up is the long-awaited Roots EP from Kill The Noise (click to purchase), which also marks the first release on DJ Craze’s Slow Roast Records imprint.  The title track “Roots” has been around forever but is finally seeing a proper release, expect to hear this one for years to come, it’s an absolute monster!  I can’t wait to drop this (maybe this Friday?) to see what happens!  For the disco heads, definitely check out “Perfect Combination” which has garnered support from tons of artists including nu-disco aficionados Duck Sauce - always nice to see some variety on an EP.

EDIT: “Roots” just went up for free download on RCRDLBL:

Second up is Sound of Stereo’s Flatland EP (click to purchase), out now on Dim Mak.  I was never a really big Sound of Stereo fan until their last EP, which saw a departure from the typical Gigi Barocco-esque electro they were producing to a style now which focuses more on huge kickdrums and epic drops, laced with simple synth melodies.  The Flatland EP shows even more progression for the duo, as these tracks are definitely more accessible than the last EP but are still just as dirty.  I love it.

Best of SXSW 2010: Slow Roast Records

Throughout SXSW I checked out an insane number of DJs, but only one got me extremely excited.  I’m talking so excited that I hunted down these tracks I was dancing to the moment I got home.  Makes sense that I had never heard of any of them as they’re all unreleased as of now!

My search led me to what is surely to be one of 2010’s hottest dance labels - Slow Roast Records!  This outfit is headed by 3-time World DMC champion DJ Craze alongside labelmates (and heavy hitters in the electronic scene): Kill The Noise, Klever, 12th Planet, and Senor Stereo.  Futhermore, the label is a subsidiary of A-Trak’s Fool’s Gold label, so clearly there is a lot of faith behind it!

The first EP scheduled for release will come from Kill The Noise on April 6th, marking the official release of the long-anticipated “Roots” and “Jokes On You”.   Definitely take a listen to these tracks at the official MySpace page or on Kill The Noise’s official site.

As an added bonus, Slow Roast Records are now running an official podcast (or, err, Hogcast), click here to listen!  Tracklist as follows:
