Chauffeur is an artist quickly on the rise with a recent signing to one of my favorite labels - Top Billin’ - and his first release on the label, the Streets EP. The description I found in my inbox really does a good job of summing up Chaffeur’s sound:
“This is a 5-track ep, with tracks that range from twisted disco to speaker bruising rave to bass heavy pop. Fresh in a way when people started to talk about this genre called ‘electro bangers’ or whatever they’re called, it’s not your ordinary electro. Dark and grimey like the alleys of major cities, the unexpected lurking around the corner.”
Chauffeur - Streets EP by TOP BILLIN
Here’s the play-by-play:
Chauffeur - Lets Go
This track’s rather inviting at first and gets pretty wobbly towards the end. Really like the samples used in it and the fact that it remains melodic throughout without getting cheesy at all.
Chauffeur - Streets
A very Miami, prom-night’ish track (my descriptions are always on point, I swear). Love it.
Chauffeur - The Things You Do
Total melting pot of styles here! Nu-disco with a funky bassline, pop sensibilities and signature electro sounds round out this one.
Chauffeur - To Make Her Smile
Pretty different from the rest of the EP, namely because of the lead vocal. Was this inspired by Edmonton’s Shout Out Out Out Out? =) It definitely feels that way. I also have the sneaking suspicion that the vocal samples Little Boots’ “Earthquake” too.
Chauffeur - You Know What To Do
Very heavy electro that I’d drop around peak hour! You’ll probably hear me dropping this.
Like what you hear? Buy it here.
As a bonus, Thom AKA Chauffeur is actually out of Calgary, I swear that place just breeds talent by the boatload! So I’m extra proud making this post, much love to the Canadian talent out there!
