BLENDED! Volume 1 by Miyuru Fernando

Here’s a little present from me to you for the next time you’re on a roadtrip, hosting a houseparty or just on the train :)  I decided to call this mix BLENDED! because it’s not your typical track A to B style of mix (not that there’s anything wrong with that), but you can almost think of it as a series of mashups and blended together.  Being the modest guy I am, I’d rather let it speak for itself so feel free to download it below (click the downward pointing arrow) and check out the tracklist too:

The Next Generation of Electro: California’s GreenElectronic

A project (for lack of a better word) I’m really excited about is California’s GreenElectronic Productions.  Let’s just call them a family of a bunch of red hot electro acts who are well on their way to blowing up in the coming year or two :)  Not only have I been a fan of many of their artists without knowing it for some time now, listening to tracks from the rest of the roster really shows how much unsigned talent is out there!  Check out the artists who make up GreenElectronic:

  • PeaceTreaty
  • Pance Party
  • Religion
  • Valerna
  • Clockwork
  • Kissed With A Noise
  • LightsOverLA
  • S-T3RRA

Over the next little while I’ll be posting a bit about each artist so please look forward to it!  I think for today we’ll start with…

Valerna

Valerna’s latest EP just dropped on Beatport and is quickly rising through the charts, check it out and other tracks below and definitely feel free to download the killer Felix Cartal edit of the A-side:

Valerna - Look Ma! No Pants! (Felix Cartal Edit)

P.S. Major congratulations to my friends EL3CTRONIGHT in Montreal (and I guess all over really) on the launch of v.3.0 of their blog!  Definitely one of the best electronic dance blogs around, I’d recommend it in a heartbeat.

New !!! - AM/FM Music Video

The seminal dance-punk outfit !!! (band website / MySpace) have got a new album on the way (August 24) entitled “Strange Weather, Isn’t It?” and they’ve also got a psychedelic new music video for the single “AM/FM”. Check it out below

Curious about the name !!!?

The band’s name was inspired by the subtitles of the movie The Gods Must Be Crazy, in which the clicking sounds of the Bushmens’ Khoisan language were represented as “!”. However, as the bandmembers themselves say, !!! is pronounced by repeating thrice any monosyllabic sound. Chk Chk Chk is the most common pronunciation, but they could just as easily be called Pow Pow Pow, Bam Bam Bam, Uh Uh Uh, etc.

I’m not sure if they win the award for Best Name Ever or Worst Name Ever, but at least it’s not unoriginal. And their music is hype so who gives?

Oh yeah, peep the dope album artwork below, ice sculptures are sweet.

Pictures from Foamo - July 2, 2010

This Canada Day weekend we decided what better way to celebrate than throwing a party with one of the UK’s finest - FOAMO!  The show was a hit (as always!) and the crowd was definitely crazier than ever.  Here are the pictures from the show courtesy of Michael Ng of NGYOFACE.com, look out for big things from this young photographer!

Enjoy the pictures and look forward to a recap video + interview with Foamo in the near future!

Foamo Megamix - Courtesy of Two Charming Men

Our Irish friends Conroy and Darce, otherwise known as Two Charming Men, just sent us this bangin’ new mix featuring their favorite Foamo tracks.  No, we didn’t con them into mixing this for us, it just turns out they’ll be playing a show alongside Foamo a couple weeks after our own show here in Edmonton and crafted this mix in anticipation.  Naturally, they sent it our way!

Click here to download it and be sure to grab your tickets ASAP, they’re selling like hotcakes with the earlybird selling out last week!

New single and music video from the live dance act DVAS, a band that began in Edmonton tearing up dancefloors alongside Shout Out Out Out Out and is now a fixture of the Toronto music scene. Embracing the disco sound just like we remember.
